There are buildings that resist time. This tenement house in the centre of Kraków is one of them. The staircase ornamental ironwork railings, worn stone steps, light coming through the skylight from above has not changed in decades. The flats have been renovated. The staircase has been left.
Photographing a space like this requires patience. You wait for the light to reach the right angle. You do not move anything. Everything that matters is already there.

The building dates from the late 19th century. The staircase is original. This is the kind of interior that no renovation brief will ever produce it accumulates over time, not over budget.
